MELCHOR PERSIA

Sculptures of the heads of the Kings of Commagene on Mount Nemrud in Turkey (formerly part of the Parthian kingdom).

In the 1st century, Antiochos III of Commagene (12 BC – 17 AD) was a Zoroastrian king, whose mother was a princess of the Atropatene Kingdom.

The Parthian rulers, followers of Zoroastrianism, received a magus (meaning wise) education and bore the title of magus themselves. “Numerous classical texts reveal that the King received a comprehensive magus education and was designated a magus during both the Sassanian and Parthian eras.” G. Widengren, “Religions of Iran.”
