SULTAN MALEK-EL-KAMEL OF EGYPT & ST. FRANCIS OF ASSISI: ONE OF THE FIRST INTER-RELIGIOUS DIALOGUE

Famous and rare iconography which describes one of the first meeting between the two great monotheistic religions, Christianity and the Islamic world, which took place in 1219 thanks to Saint Francis who on the occasion of the 5th Crusade in the Holy Land decided to embark for Egypt and meet the captain of the opposing faction, Sultan al-Kamil, Saladin’s nephew, armed only with pure faith in God with the intention of converting him to Christianity.
