THE ARRIVAL TO JERUSALEM
THE MAGI CAMPED AROUND JERUSALEM FOR THREE DAYS, WITH THEIR CAVALRY OF 12,000 MEN, AND THE ESSENCES PERFUMED THE ENTIRE CITY
“The star that led them guided them and their troops to the city of Jerusalem after a journey of nine months. They camped around the city and remained there for three days, they and the princes of their respective kingdoms. When all had arrived in the city of Jerusalem, the star that had been in front of them temporarily hid its light. Then they stopped and hesitated. The numerous horsemen and kings said to one another: ‘What should we do now and in which direction should we go? We do not know, because the star has led us until now, and now it has disappeared and left us in distress…’. The wise men said to one another: ‘Let us go inquire about the child, and find out exactly where he is; then we will continue on our way.’ A fragrance of perfumed essences spread and filled the entire city.” Armenian Infancy Gospel (5th c.)
